Directed by Steven Spielberg and featuring a stand out cast including Oscar winners Daniel Day-Lewis (as Abraham Lincoln), Tommy Lee Jones (as Thaddeus Stephens) and Sally Field (as Mary Todd Lincoln), Pulitzer prize-winner Tony Kushner’s adaptation of Doris Kearns Goodwins’book focuses on the last four months of Abraham Lincoln’s life as he worked to end the civil war in the south and pass a constitutional amendment to outlaw slavery. Bringing to light the backroom deals that helped secure the constitutional changes that would change the course of America, Spielberg’s drama gives audiences a glimpse into the personal life of a president who put his life on the line to end slavery. However, according to The Guardian UK, it’s the political infighting that steals the show: “if only modern American politics were remotely as entertaining”. Co-starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Hal Holbrook, John Hawkes, David Strathairn, Jared Harris and James Spader.
Oscar Winner: Best Actor, Daniel Day Lewis, Best Production Design.
Golden Globe Winner - Best Actor (Daniel Day Lewis)
