England Is Mine
Jack Lowden (Dunkirk) stars as the teenage Steven Patrick Morrissey living in the industrial north of Thatcher’s Britain, experiencing the general atmosphere of unemployment, rioting and agitation for social change. Increasingly dour about the state of the country and rebelling against the idea of growing older only to join the unfulfilling daily grind, the young Morrissey begins to create poetry, bashing away on a typewriter while supported by a trio of women: his best friend Anji (Katherine Pearce), punk artist Linder Sterling (Jessica Brown Findlay), and his supportive mother (Simone Kirby).
Filmed entirely in Morrissey’s home town of Stretford, Greater Manchester, ENGLAND IS MINE is an authentic look at the early years of the king of mope, and the women surrounding him who helped propel a sulky teen into musical greatness.
