Lost City of Z

Director James Gray (The Immigrant, Two Lovers) scales ambitious heights in his adaptation of the true story of British explorer Col. Percival Fawcett, who vanished while searching for a mysterious city in the depths of the Amazon in the 1920s.

Charlie Hunnam stars as Fawcett, who becomes convinced that there is evidence of a lost civilisation in the Amazon that would entirely change the Western conception of South America. Ridiculed by his peers, Fawcett returns again and again to his beloved jungle along with his aide-de-camp Henry Costin (a scene-stealing Robert Pattinson) and later his own son Jack (Tom Holland), all striving to prove his theory.

Gray’s tour-de-force of a film is like a lost classical Hollywood adventure epic that is ever aware of colonial sins, and is a must-see picture.
