Victoria & Abdul

A spiritual sequel to Mrs. Brown, the film that catapulted Judi Dench to the world stage as Queen Victoria, Stephen Frears directs another story of an unlikely friendship between the monarch and one of her servants.

In the year of the Golden Jubilee, Indian clerk Abdul Karim (Ali Fazal) is chosen to be sent to London to present Queen Victoria with a gift. Victoria, burdened with grief and personal depression, finds much to cheer her in the person of the handsome and learned Abdul. Appointing him to her household as a special teacher of Indian languages and cultures, the queen suddenly gains a new lease on life. But her inner circle of advisors and family members are appalled at the presence of an outsider whose motives they cannot fathom as being anything but opportunistic.

With a supporting cast including Michael Gambon, Eddie Izzard and Olivia Williams, VICTORIA AND ABDUL is an opulent period drama about seeing the world through new eyes.
