| Script Alive! - a regular co-presentation of Cinema Nova and Film Victoria |
Thanks to all who participated in the reading of 'Binawee'
at Cinema Nova on Tuesday August 17.
The story opens at an Aboriginal mission in Queensland, 1945, a kind of reformatory where the crime is being black. It’s the only home Binawee, a 15 year old Aboriginal girl, has ever known.
Her life changes abruptly when she is sent to work as a domestic servant in a white household and finds an unusual connection with lonely 10 year old grandson, Benjamin.
BINAWEE tells a story of the delicate balance one life can exert upon another. |

About Pangea Day
Award-winning documentary filmmaker Jehane Noujaim created Pangea Day after winning the prestigious TED Prize, which grants winners “one wish to change the world.” Jehane’s wish: “To bring the world together through the power of film”
Pangea is the name of the landmass that existed 250 million years ago before it split into separate continents. It’s a reminder that what now appears divided was once whole.
The 24 short films to be featured have been selected from an international competition that generated more than 2,500 submissions from over one hundred countries. The films were chosen based on their ability to inspire, transform, and allow us see the world through another person's eyes.
The program will also include a number of exceptional speakers and musical performers. Queen Noor of Jordan, CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, musician and activist Bob Geldof, and Iranian rock phenom Hypernova are among those taking part.
