Sense Of An Ending, The

Coming Soon

Join us for a very special matinee advance-screening of THE SENSE OF AN ENDING on Friday May 19 at 10.30am with freshly-baked scones, tea and coffee, plus an introduction by Jan Epstein and Professor Michael Saling discussing the fluidity of memory.

From Ritesh Batra, the director of The Lunchbox, comes a drama of regret and the ambiguities of memory starring Jim Broadbent and Charlotte Rampling.

Tony Webster (Broadbent) is divorced and retired, leading a rather fusty and reclusive life. But Tony’s past comes out from the shadows to preoccupy him again due to a sudden inheritance, and memories of an early girlfriend, Veronica, and the friend who superseded him in her affections, Adrian, flood his mind. Forced to reflect upon his past and dig deep into his recollections of first love, broken hearts, deceit, regret, guilt, and the devastating consequences of actions he took long ago, Tony is in danger of being swallowed whole by the past, and more pressingly, by his flawed remembrances of it.

A thoughtful, intelligent film that has more than a few thematic threads in common with Atonement, THE SENSE OF AN ENDING explores how memory contributes to how we contextualise our lives, and the damage done when we fail to realise memory is always subjective.
