The Opening NIght selection of MIFF 2019, Walkley award-winning journalist Stan Grant adapts his acclaimed Quarterly essay for a documentary about the Brownlow Medallist, Australian Of The Year 2014, and football star whose career was cut-short by a wave of discrimination in the media, on the field and by fans of Australian Rules. Focusing on Goodes but drawing on larger issues within Australian society, THE AUSTRALIAN DREAM finds a country divided on both its identity and the pathway to reconciliation.
