Borg vs McEnroe

One of the great rivalries of tennis is brought to the screen by Swedish director Janus Metz, zeroing in on the classic 1980 Wimbledon final between the unflappable, icy Björn Borg and enfant terrible John McEnroe.

Two of the greats of modern tennis, Borg and McEnroe were polar opposites in terms of their playing style and court demeanour. The Swede was jokingly referred to as a robot, precise in his game and projecting an unbreakable sense of calm. McEnroe in contrast was an unpredictable player that hugged the net, and with his explosive temper was infamous for bad behaviour.

Perfectly cast with the lanky and brooding Sverrir Gudnason as Borg and Shia LaBeouf scowling from under a curly bouffant as McEnroe, the film delves into the contrasts of these two great players while also exploring their surprising similarities. When Gudnason and LaBeouf face off, the sparks from the actors bouncing off each other match the heat of the duel on the court.
