Emu Runner

The story of an Indigenous family dealing with the death of a mother is explored in Imogen Thomas’ debut feature, EMU RUNNER. Also penned and produced by Thomas, her film was created over a period of 15 years, collaborating closely with the people of Brewarrina in western NSW.

Gem (newcomer Rhae-Kye Waites) is a nine-year-old girl dealing with the recent loss of her mother – by befriending a wild emu. Her father (Wayne Blair, The Sapphires) struggles to understand and comfort her in the wake of his own grief. A film that touches on loss, family, and Country, EMU RUNNER is a lyrical tale of emotion.
