Milliner of Jackie Kennedy, friend of Liza Minelli, dresser of the rich and famous: Roy Halston Frowick, born in conservative Iowa, travelled far from his roots during his illustrious career. Frédéric Tcheng (Dior and I) turns his camera on iconic fashion designer Halston, tracking his rise in ’70s New York. Amassing a fashion empire made up of cashmere and ultrasuede, and coveted by celebrities, Halston became synonymous with the hedonistic Studio 54 disco days. Tcheng’s documentary takes us inside the life of the fashion icon who, after reaching the heights of fashion stardom, made the controversial decision to sign a billion-dollar contract with retail chain J.C. Penney – becoming the beginning of the end for him.
