Ladies in Black

Director BRUCE BERESFORD live at Nova! Join the filmmaker for an in-depth discussion with Text Publishing's Michael Heyward about Beresford's anticipated new film ahead of an advance screening: Thursday September 13, 6.30pm - Tickets on sale below.

Oscar nominated filmmaker Bruce Beresford (Breaker Morant, Driving Miss Daisy, Mao's Last Dancer) adapts Madeleine St John's bestselling novel for the screen with this delightful Australian comedy.

The year is 1959 and young Lisa Miles (Angourie Rice) is fresh out of high school and learning the ropes at her new job working in women's wear at a prestigious Sydney department store. At first dismissed by her older colleagues, Lisa soon forms friendships with unlucky-in-love Fay (Rachael Taylor) and poised Hungarian immigrant Magda (Julia Ormond). Exposed to the wider world gradually being brought to the city by Magda, her husband Stefan (Vincent Perez), Rudi (Ryan Corr) and other 'new Australians', Lisa and Fay come to embrace this exciting new culture. Co-starring Susie Porter, Shane Jacobson, Nicholas Hammond and Noni Hazlehurst, LADIES IN BLACK is a perfectly-timed reflection on Australia's very own coming-of-age.
