Mary Queen of Scots
It’s queen against queen as Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie face off in a new telling of the classic battle royale between Mary Stuart and Elizabeth I.
Mary (Ronan) returns to Scotland as the widowed queen of France to take up the Scottish throne. Initially desiring to reign in peace alongside her cousin Elizabeth (Robbie) who is queen of neighbouring England, Mary and Elizabeth’s would-be sisterly relationship is violently rocked by the schemes, plots and machinations of the men in their lives. As relations between the two queens deteriorate, and when Mary produces an heir where Elizabeth cannot, a royal reckoning can’t be avoided.
Co-starring Jack Lowden, Gemma Chan, Joe Alwyn, David Tennant and Guy Pearce, and helmed by celebrated theatre director Josie Rourke, this is the period drama at its most lush, passionate, and divinely performed.
