Old Man and the Gun, The

The Sundance Kid is hanging up his boots – but not before one last heist. Robert Redford starts in (so he says) his last film role as an unrepentant bank robber who breaks out of jail in order to continue his crime spree and live life by his own rules.

Based on a true story, Redford portrays Forrest Tucker, a repeat offender who has escaped from prison multiple times over his storied criminal career. Now aged 70, he has just made a daring escape from San Quentin. Pursued by a detective (Casey Affleck) who is obsessed with Forrest’s commitment to the craft of crime, the charming robber launches right back into orchestrating heists with his Over The Hill Gang (Tom Waits and Danny Glover).

Co-starring Sissy Spacek and Elisabeth Moss, and directed by David Lowery (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, A Ghost Story), THE OLD MAN AND THE GUN is an invigorating caper that not only stands comfortably alongside Redford’s earlier westerns, but also acts as a fine capstone to a legendary career.
