Song to Song
Set against the Austin music scene in Texas, the film swirls around two entangled couples. BV (Ryan Gosling) is a struggling songwriter in a relationship with a similarly fringe musician, Faye (Rooney Mara). But Faye is also secretly sleeping with music mogul Cook (Michael Fassbender), who has also drawn into his charismatic orbit Rhonda (Natalie Portman), a former waitress. As these characters segue in and out of each other’s lives, a bittersweet tragedy plays out.
Featuring Cate Blanchett and Holly Hunter, as well as musicians Patti Smith and Iggy Pop, Malick as usual immerses his actors in stunning landscapes and surrounds and allows them to play within an evocative mood piece.
