Yellow Is Forbidden
Nova Exclusive! Dive headfirst into the dizzying world of haute couture with Pietra Brettkelly’s documentary about one of its emerging major players - Chinese designer Guo Pei.
Kiwi director Brettkelly (A Flickering Truth, Maori Boy Genius) follows Pei as she prepares her debut collection for Paris Fashion Week. From her roots as the daughter of a communist soldier, to her education at Number 2 Light Industrial School, to dressing Rihanna for the Met Ball (in a dress that weighed 25 kg and took 2 years to make), YELLOW IS FORBIDDEN weaves a colourful vision of Pei and her talent. Her quiet force guides an opulent and ambitious aesthetic, set to make its mark on the high fashion world.
