POLFF26 Winter of the Crow

Inspired by a short story by Nobel Prize-winning author Olga Tokarczuk, WINTER OF THE CROW, starring Academy Award nominee and Tony Award winner Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread, The Crown), is a tense political thriller set in December 1981, on the eve of the declaration of martial law in Poland.

Respected British psychiatry professor Joan Andrews arrives in Warsaw to attend an international conference. When the young woman who was meant to look after her disappears, Joan finds herself stranded in a city transformed overnight by military rule. With tanks in the streets, phones cut off and uncertainty everywhere, her attempts to find out what has happened draw her into an increasingly dangerous world of state surveillance and political intrigue.

Directed by Kasia Adamik, WINTER OF THE CROW combines political tension with a gripping cat-and-mouse narrative. Against the backdrop of one of the most turbulent moments in modern Polish history, the film explores the fragility of freedom and the extraordinary choices forced onto ordinary people in dangerous times.
