Sense and Sensibility

30TH ANNIVERSARY! The exceedingly handsome SENSE AND SENSIBILITY was scripted by Emma Thompson and was Ang Lee's first English feature. The impeccable cast includes Thompson, Alan Rickman, Kate Winslet and Hugh Grant.

When Mr. Dashwood (Tom Wilkinson) dies, the bulk of his estate is left to the son from his first marriage, crippling the finances of his second wife and their three daughters Elinor (Thompson), Marianne (Winslet), and Margaret (Emilie François). When the Dashwoods move to a cottage in Devonshire to live with their cousin, Marianne finds herself torn between the handsome John Willoughby (Greg Wise) and the older Colonel Brandon (Rickman), while Elinor longs for the romance of an engaged Edward Ferrars (Grant). While the circumstances in their lives constantly change, both Elinor and Marianne strive for love amongst their financial ruin.

Thompson's Oscar Winning script helped cement this Jane Austen adaptation as a classic of the 1990s, and an essential entry in the romantic genre.
