Fatherland

Paweł Pawlikowski (COLD WAR, IDA) returns to the screen with FATHERLAND, the third film in his spiritual trilogy on identity, guilt, family, and love in the tumultuous landscape of post War Europe.

At the height of the Cold War, writer Thomas Mann (Hanns Zischler) and his daughter Erika (Sandra Hüller) embark on a tour across a ruined Germany to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the German writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. As they make their appearances at conferences, parties, and private engagements, the history of their setting colours the entire purpose of the trip, and family, love, and allegiances take the centre stage.
