Franz: Becoming Kafka

ADVANCE SCREENING: Sunday May 17, 10.45am.

Oscar-nominee Agnieszka Holland (Europa Europa, Green Border) returns with FRANZ: Becoming Kafka, a chronicling of one of literature’s most studied authors, told through the same audacious surrealism present in his works.

Longing to creatively express himself, Franz Kafka (Idan Weiss) finds himself torn between the expectations of his father, the monotony of his insurance job, and his deep-rooted urge to write. When he begins to receive attention, his continual attempts at conforming to those around him is marred by his own battles between intimacy and withdrawal. Supported by his friend and publisher, the picture emerges of a man searching for his place in the world – between a sense of duty, inner turmoil, and creative expression.
