La Bola Negra

Joint winner of Best Director at Cannes, Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi’s LA BOLA NEGRA is a powerful generation hopping exploration of Spain, the self, and those around us.

In 1937, a young musician, Sebastián (the debut role of singer Guitarricadelafuente) meets and falls for a handsome prisoner after being conscripted by the Nationalist army. In 1935, Carlos (Milo Quifes), tries to become a member at an exclusive casino his father continually pushes him towards, but finds himself rejected due to rumours about his homosexuality. In 2017, aimless historian and former writer Alberto (Carlos González) inherits a mysterious gift from his estranged grandfather that promises to connect them all.

A beautifully shot, touching, and emotional odyssey of love, LA BOLA NEGRA is a celebration of queer identity and individuality.
