MDFF Left Behind

Left Behind (Dir: Anna Toomey – 76m)

Left Behind is the inspiring story of a group of determined and passionate moms from diverse backgrounds who banded together to create the first public dyslexic school in the largest school district in America, New York City. We followed their uphill battle for 3 years challenging an outdated system which blatantly denies children with this learning disability access to a free and appropriate education. Their PUBLIC school opened in the fall of 2023, South Bronx Literacy Academy. The first of its kind in New York City, and across the country.

Short film ‘Fat Ass Lipo’ (Dir: Michaela Frantz – 12m) to play before feature -

Diagnosed with lipoedema at 52, Sharyn Frantz realised her pain mirrored generations of women in her family who suffered in silence. This micro-documentary follows her journey to raise awareness of a misunderstood disease that steals mobility and dignity from millions of women. Sharyn's story is a powerful call to action: no woman should have to fight her body—and the healthcare system—alone.
