With strikingly intimate access, MISTRESS DISPELLER explores the work of a ‘mistress dispeller’ – someone who is tasked with infiltrating and ending an affair.

When Mrs Li finds out that her husband Mr Li is having an affair with the younger Fei Fei, she reaches out to professional ‘mistress dispeller’ Wang Zhenxi for help, desperate to save her marriage. As Wang ingratiates herself into Mr Li’s life, she immediately begins to look for anything that could unravel the delicate infidelity tearing his marriage apart. What emerges is an empathetic and tender portrait of desire, as director Elizzabeth Lo negates a tabloid portrayal in favour of a touching study about tradition, intimacy, and the challenges of putting one’s happiness in the hands of others.
