Maiden

Tracy Edwards, a former ship’s cook, made headlines as the skipper of the first ever all-female crew to take on the male-dominated Whitbread Round-The-World yacht race. Leading a crew of woman to complete the notoriously gruelling race in 1989, the 24-year-old and her fellow sailing teammates were told they wouldn’t even finish the first leg.

What followed was the stuff of legends - but perhaps really just the stuff of some strong, gutsy women, who refused to take no for an answer. Director Alex Holmes catches up with Edwards and co now in his documentary MAIDEN, retelling a story of against-the-odds triumph, and resulting in an uplifting and inspirational watch.
