Crossing

NOVA EXCLUSIVE! Premiering at the 2024 Berlin International Film Festival, CROSSING is a moving and tender tale of identity, acceptance and unlikely connection that transcends borders and generations.

In a Georgian border town, retired teacher Lia (Mzia Arabuli) is looking for her long-lost niece, Tekla. At Tekla’s old address, Lia meets Achi (Lucas Kankava), a bored, wayward youth looking for any escape from his violent household. When Achi claims he can help find Lia's niece, she allows him to join her as the pair set off to Istanbul, where it's believed Tekla is. There, they meet lawyer and trans-rights advocate, Evrim (Deniz Dumanli), who allows Lia to come closer to understanding who Tekla really is, while also finally recognising her own failures that led to Tekla leaving.

Georgian, Turkish and English Language, English subtitles.
