AFFA26 The Fisherman

AFRICA FILM FEST AUSTRALIA OPENING NIGHT!

In Zoey Martinson’s Venice Film Festival-winning feast of magical realist comedy THE FISHERMAN, aging Ghanaian Atta Oko (Ricky Adelayitar) sets his sights on finally having his own boat and becoming the envy of his village; but to do so, he’ll need help from a talking fish.

Forced into retirement, Atta Oko Sackey's peaceful life is turned upside down when he encounters a very modern, bougie talking fish with big dreams and even bigger attitude. Partnered with this sassy aquatic companion, Atta Oko is thrust into an unexpected journey to the bustling capital city of Accra. Joined by his three loyal but eccentric 'Associates', the group embark on a quest to chase their collective dream of owning their own fishing boat. Navigating the challenges of the modern world, Atta Oko must learn to balance tradition with innovation, all while dealing with the hilarity and chaos brought on by his unusual new friend.

Filled with laughter, magic, and the vibrant culture of Ghana, THE FISHERMAN made history as Ghana’s first official selection at the 81st Venice Film Festival, winning the Fellini Medal from UNESCO Enrico Fulchignoni Prize.
