Maigret and the Dead Lover
Writer/director Pascal Bonitzer (The Stolen Painting) brings Georges Simenon’s Inspector Maigret into the modern age as the detective attempts to solve the murder of a former diplomat with a long-held secret.
Inspector Maigret (Denis Podalydès) is summoned to the Quai d'Orsay when a former ambassador is found dead. Forewarned that he will find a series of salacious letters at the home of the deceased, Maigret uncovers decades-spanning correspondence between the ambassador and the Princess of Vuynes, whose own husband, by strange coincidence, has also just died… As the list of possible suspects grows, Maigret must manage the expectations of his superiors as well as the relatives and friends who are part of elite Parisian circles.
An absorbing, wholly compelling mystery that serves as a thoughtful examination of societal hierarchies and aging, MAIGRET AND THE DEAD LOVER is a mystery as exacting as it's titular detective.
