After stepping away from the music scene due to a personal and artistic crisis, iconic pop star Mother Mary (Hathaway) is determined to return to the spotlight. On the eve of her comeback performance, she seeks out her estranged friend and former costume designer Sam Anselm (Coel) for help with making a dress. But as the two work together, and long-buried wounds resurface, the inescapability of their connection comes to the fore.
