Mr Burton

Starring Toby Jones (First Cow), Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread), and newcomer Harry Lawtey (Industry), MR BURTON is the extraordinary true story of a working-class boy destined for greatness and the teacher who got him there.
Philip Burton (Jones) is a passionate schoolmaster teaching in the Welshtown of Port Talbot, during WWII. There, he meets Richard Jenkins (Lawtey), a volatile yet gifted teen that arrives at his school with little sense of discipline. Whilst Richard’s demeanour looks to be projecting him towards the same path as his drunkard father, Philip sees a great spark emanating inside him. Taking Richie under his wing to tutor him through mentorship, discipline, and love, Philip helps shape the raw, and often impulsive, talent present in front of him. Whilst a combination of family troubles, the pressures of war, and his own lack of discipline try to pull Richard away from his potential, Philip is dedicated to carving a path forward for the boy who would eventually become Richard Burton, one of the greatest actors of the 20th century.
