Inspired by an HG Wells' short story, a spectacular and mysterious cosmic event causes ants of all species to undergo a rapid evolution. In the remote Arizona desert the creatures build seven geometricaly perfect towers, leading two scientists to set up a lab to monitor further activity. With the ants become increasingly hostile, one scientist believes he can communicate with them through mathmatics while a young woman who lives in the area becomes convinced her actions caused the insect uprising.
