My Beautiful Laundrette

40th ANNIVERSARY! Years ahead of its time, Stephen Frears (The Crying Game) directs Daniel Day Lewis and Gordon Warnecke in a romantic comedy-drama written by Hanif Kureishi. Named one of the Best British Films of the 20th Century, it was nominated for the Best Original Screenplay Academy Award.

Omar is an ambitious Pakistani Briton trying to make it on his own. Becoming increasingly cynical about British society thanks to his father's dissatisfaction with the world, Omar's uncle presents his nephew with the opportunity to manage a run-down laundrette. Attacked late one night by a street gang, Omar recognises their leader is his childhood friend Johnny. Offering Johnny a job at the laundrette, their friendship is rekindled in unexpected ways.
