Virtual Q&A with actor Orion Lee
Saturday May 1 – 3.45pm – Tickets on sale below.
2020 MIFF’s opening night hit, Kelly Reichardt’s (Meek’s Cutoff, Wendy and Lucy) directs Western fable FIRST COW, a look at the way of life of fur trappers in the early nineteenth century in Oregon. Loner Cookie (John Magaro, The Big Short) has travelled west to seek his fortune, finding connection and a like-mind in Chinese immigrant King Lu (Orion Lee, Star Wars: The Last Jedi) - and the two hatch a plan to make money by secretly using a nearby landowner’s prized milking cow. A gently paced depiction of life in rural America and also starring Toby Jones and Alia Shawkat, Reichardt’s film sensitively captures male friendship in this tale of human connection set against the wilderness.
