Happening

France, 1963. The first of her family to attend university, Anne is a bright young student with a promising future ahead of her. When she falls pregnant, Anne’s life is upended and, in the face of possible imprisonment, she pursues an abortion. Audrey Diwan’s intimate adaptation of Annie Ernaux’s autobiographical novel approaches the themes of its source material with honesty and simplicity, resulting in a gripping, poignant and timely sophomore feature.
