Last Black Man in San Francisco, The

NOVA SELECTROSPECTIVE! Signalling two visionary new talents in writer/director Joe Talbot and his writer/star Jimmie Fails, Sundance Film Festival award winner (Directing Award, Jury Award - Creative Collaboration) THE LAST BLACK MAN IN SAN FRANCISCO is a stirring drama about identity, home and the importance of friendship.

Jimmie (Fails) and Montgomery (Jonathan Majors) are two best friends who have always looked out for one another. Obsessed with the handcrafted home that his Grandfather built long before the Fillmore neighbourhood began to gentrify, Jimmie spies an opportunity to move in when the current residents move out and the home is left unoccupied. With a plan to put the house in Jimmie’s name through local loopholes, the two men soon move in and bring their furniture with them. Soaking up the home’s inspirational and elaborate spaces, Montgomery begins to write a play that he plans to perform inside the house before the exercise reveals a truth that runs contrary to his friend’s family history.

Co-starring Danny Glover, Mike Epps and Finn Wittrock, THE LAST BLACK MAN IN SAN FRANCISCO is an overlooked gem that deserves to be discovered at the movies.
