Mommie Dearest

45TH ANNIVERSARY! The abusive and traumatic adoptive upbringing of Christina Crawford at the hands of her mother, screen queen Joan Crawford (Fay Dunaway), is depicted in a Frank Perry's Hollywood-set camp classic MOMMIE DEAREST. Spawning countless drag homages and earning a place in the cult classic hall of fame, this gloriously melodramatic drama was disowned by star Dunaway and called "grotesque" by Crawford's family.

Notoriously earning 9 Golden Raspberry nominations (winning Worst Picture, Actress, screenplay and both supporting categories), MOMMIE DEAREST sees Dunaway give a monstrous performance as the Oscar-winning star of Mildred Pierce and What Ever Happened To Baby Jane (also a drag classic) who adopted a daughter before making her the focus of her late career rage and frustration. Originally marketed as a prestige drama, less than a month into release it was repositioned as comedy before earning it's eventual cult status.
