Touch of Evil and Double Indemnity

Revenge thriller masterpieces from Welles and Wilder

TOUCH OF EVIL is a political neo-noir from Orson Welles. When a car bomb explodes on the American side of the U.S./Mexico border, Mexican drug enforcement agent Miguel Vargas (Charlton Heston) begins his investigation, along with American police captain Hank Quinlan (Welles). When Vargas begins to suspect that Quinlan and his shady partner, Menzies (Joseph Calleia), are planting evidence to frame an innocent man, his investigations into their possible corruption quickly put himself and his new bride, Susie (Janet Leigh), in jeopardy.

DOUBLE INDEMNITY set the standard for Hollywood noir. Insurance salesman Walter Neff (Fred MacMurray) gets roped into a murderous scheme when he falls for the sensual Phyllis Dietrichson (Barbara Stanwyck), a dissatisfied housewife intent on killing her husband and living off his accidental death claim. Prompted by the daughter of the deceased, Lola (Jean Heather), insurance investigator Barton Keyes (Edward G. Robinson) looks into the case, and gradually begins to uncover the sinister truth.
