Penguin Bloom

ADVANCE SCREENING plus on-screen Q&A: Wednesday January 20, 6.00pm. Star Naomi Watts, Director Glendyn Ivin and bestselling authors Sam and Cam Bloom, whose story the film is based upon, will discuss PENGUIN BLOOM in an exclusive pre-recorded Q&A on the big-screen following an advance screening. Tickets on sale now! (Regrettably the planned live virtual Q&A is no longer occuring due to a scheduling conflict, we apologise for the change).
Academy Award nominee Naomi Watts teams up with AFI award-winning director Glendyn Ivin (Last Ride, Seven Types of Ambiguity) for an uplifting true story based on the best-selling book of the same name by Cameron Bloom and Bradley Trevor Greive. Stunningly photographed and set on the Australian coast, PENGUIN BLOOM takes it's inspiration from a bird who captured our collective imagination when Cameron's photographs became a viral sensation.
Sam Bloom (Watts) is a mother whose world is turned upside down after a near-fatal accident leaves her unable to walk. Her husband Cameron (Andrew Lincoln), their three young boys and her mother (Academy Award nominee Jacki Weaver), are struggling to adjust to their new situation when an unlikely ally enters their world in the form of an orphaned baby magpie they name Penguin. Quickly demanding the attention of the whole family, the bird’s arrival provides Sam with something to foucs on other than the difficulty of her newfound situation - eventually making a profound difference in their lives.
