MTC RETROGRADE x CINEMA NOVA In collaboration with Melbourne Theatre Company and their upcoming production of Retrograde, starring Donné Ngabo as Sidney Poitier, join us for special screenings of TO SIR, WITH LOVE.

Idealistic, yet unemployed, Black American Engineering graduate Mark Thackeray (Sidney Poitier) takes on a temporary position teaching a group of rambunctious White high school students from London's East End slum neighborhood. Implementing his own brand of classroom discipline, Thackeray forces the pupils to treat each other with respect, inevitably involving himself in the students' personal lives.

Retrograde — in its Australian premiere — explores a pivotal moment in Sidney Poitier's early career, ten years before he would become the first Black man to win the Best Actor Oscar.
