Being There

45th ANNIVERSARY! Director Hal Ashby's screen adaptation of Jerzy Kosinski's novel of a simple-minded gardener raised by television continues to gain followers forty years after it was first released. Peter Sellers, giving one of his most nuanced performances, stars as Chance the gardener. Having spent his whole life within the confines of a high-walled mansion, Chance's only knowledge of the outside world has been gleaned from network television. When he leaves his home for the first time in his life, he is barely equipped to deal with the modern world. However, a chance encounter soon finds him thrust onto the national stage.

Co-starring Shirley MacLaine, Melvyn Douglas (in his Oscar-winning role) and Jack Warden, BEING THERE's prescience will astonish until the final frame.
