Cure

WHAT THE FEST 2! Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Pulse) directs CURE; the Japanese answer to David Fincher's Se7en, which was released two years prior. A shocking J-horror starring Kōji Yakusho (Perfect Days, Shall We Dance?) and Ren Ōsugi (Audition), Kurosawa's 1997 feature follows a detective investigating a series of murders whose perpetrators all confess to being driven to kill by an unknown force.

A string of seemingly unmotivated murders are each committed by a different person, yet all bear the same grisly hallmarks. Detective Takabe (Yakusho) has been tasked with uncovering who’s behind the gruesome crimes, but grows increasingly frustrated as nothing seems to connect them. As he digs further, Takabe finds himself in a labyrinthine game of cat and mouse, as an enigmatic amnesiac (Masato Hagiwara) leads him on a hallucinatory journey into the darkest recesses of the human mind.
