Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom

Oscar nominated for Best International Feature, award winning filmmaker Pawo Choyning Dorji directs a winning drama for the whole family. Ugyen (Sherab Dorji, in his feature debut) is a Bhutanese trainee teacher who harbours dreams of moving to Australia to become a singer. When his superiors learn of his plan to cut-short his studies, as punishment he is exiled to the most remote school in the world – located in the tiny village town of Lunana. An eight day trek from Ugyen’s home in the capital, he arrives to discover a building with no electricity, no textbooks and a yak residing in the classroom.

Shot on location in one of the most remote villages in the world where many members of the cast have never ventured into the outside world or even seen a movie before, LUNANA: A YAK IN THE CLASSROOM is a transportive and heart-warming adventure.
