Met Opera: Nabucco

Verdi’s epic drama about the fall of ancient Jerusalem at the hands of the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II is brought to life in this classic Met staging of biblical proportions. The grand, larger-than life spectacle promises to draw opera lovers and newcomers alike for this dramatic retelling of biblical history.

Ukrainian soprano Liudmyla Monastyrska reprises her searing portrayal of Abigaille, following her acclaimed performance in the 2017 Live in HD transmission, alongside baritone George Gagnidze, who makes his Met role debut as the imperious king Nabucco. Mezzo-soprano Maria Barakova and tenor SeokJong Baek are Fenena and Ismaele, and bass Dmitry Belosselskiy returns as the high priest Zaccaria.

Maestro Daniele Callegari conducts Verdi’s breakout early masterpiece, which features the ultimate showcase for the great Met Chorus, the moving “Va, pensiero.”
