Piano, The

30th ANNIVERSARY SCREENING! Winner of the Palme d'Or (tied with Farewell My Concubine) and Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival, Jane Campion's THE PIANO is regarded as one of the finest films of 1993.
A powerful period drama set in New Zealand during the mid-1800s, Holly Hunter stars as electively mute Scotswoman Ada, who has been sold into marriage to a New Zealand frontiersman (Sam Neill). Bringing her daughter Flora (Anna Paquin) and a hand crafted piano with her to the remote country, Ada's husband refuses to transport the musical instrument through the wilderness to their home. Striking a bargain with a neighbour (Harvey Keitel) to retrieve the piano from the beach where it was deposited, Ada begins along a dangerous path that may cost her and her family greatly.
