Professor and the Madman, The

Screen stalwarts Mel Gibson and Sean Penn team up to tell the incredible true story of Professor James Murray and Dr William Minor in PROFESSOR AND THE MADMAN. A passion project for Gibson of which the making of took two decades, the film is based on Simon Winchester’s book “The Surgeon of Crowthorne”. Murray (Gibson) has taken on the task of compiling words to fill the very first Oxford English Dictionary in the mid-19th century. Receiving scores of entries from one source in particular – Dr William Minor (Penn), an inpatient at a facility for mentally ill criminals. Collaborating on the collection of words, the two men are brought together despite the contrast in their personal circumstances.
