MF26 Bloody Tennis
BLOODY TENNIS is a gloriously unhinged melange of Suspiria, Girl Fight and Battle Royale, where elite sport, occult weirdness and survival horror meet on centre court.
Sophie arrives at an elite European tennis academy with dreams of making it to Wimbledon, only to discover that the road to centre court involves considerably more than a killer backhand. Run by a sadistic matron and staffed by possibly the world’s least enthusiastic tennis coach and a handyman who makes racket strings from cat intestines, the academy pits its all-female students against each other in an increasingly deranged battle for survival.
Packed with blood-sucking leeches, occult rituals, queer desire, grotesque training exercises and some genuinely questionable approaches to sports psychology, Nikias Chryssos’ BLOODY TENNIS is a dazzlingly camp collision of body horror, exploitation cinema and competitive-sports satire.
At this academy, it’s not whether you win or lose. It’s whether you’re still alive at the end of the match.
