Stelarc – Suspending Disbelief

MEET THE FILMMAKER: Sunday July 13, 3.30pm.

STELARC - SUSPENDING DISBELIEF explores the works of Melbourne based artist Stelarc, who burst into prominence in the early 1970s with a series of confronting, and outrageous public art performances. Following his mantra that ‘the body is obsolete’ the Cypriot born Australian set about proving his theory by testing the limits of his own body in a series of death-defying stunts. Stelarc's creativity over the decades has ranged across the arts, sciences, and engineering, engaging with modifications to the self through both organic and robotic enhancements.

This is a biopic about a lively, articulate character with a demonic laugh and a presence that fills the screen.
