Update: Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Following instructions given by the federal government Cinema Nova has been forced to cease trading, effective immediately. Customers who have purchased tickets to sessions that will not screen will be given a refund. Where tickets have been purchased online via Credit Card / PayPal a refund will automatically be processed. Where tickets have been purchased over the counter we can provide a refund to a nominated credit card. To commence this process please email us at dutymanager[AT] with your phone contact details so we can contact you directly. 

Selected New York Met Opera and National Theatre Live shows will be rescheduled for later in the year and we are offering ticketholders the opportunity to retain their tickets to these events so as to swap into the newly scheduled sessions once able. 

We thank all our valued staff and patrons for their passion and support in recent weeks as well as the prior 28 years. We look forward to resuming trade as soon as practical so we can continue to bring Melbourne the world's best quality cinema and events.

Following instructions given by the federal government on Friday March 20 Cinema Nova has reduced all cinema seating capacities to allow for the advised 'Four Square Meters Per Person Rule', limiting the amount of people permitted within an enclosed space. These new changes have taken effect immediately. These newly applied changes, combined with our unallocated seating, allow for audiences to sit apart in all auditoriums by the required amount. Capacities for the Nova Bar + Kitchen have also been reduced, so please anticipate seating is subject to availability. 

Time between the conclusion and commencement of film sessions in each auditorium has also been increased to allow audiences to more easily access their cinema rather than waiting in the cinema foyer, where we are also observing the updated indoor capacity requirements.

We continue to clean contact surfaces with recommended products, request payment be cashless where possible, and ensure our staff are informed about best practice personal hygiene.

Following instructions given by the federal government on Wed March 18 Cinema Nova has reduced all cinema capacities to no more than 100 people and has reduced capacities by approx 50% in all auditoriums to allow for appropriate social distancing. Planned sessions with an audience greater than 100 have been cancelled or rescheduled across multiple commencement times and cinemas to meet the prescribed requirements. 

We continue our regime of thorough surface cleaning across the venue and are maintaining a constant dialogue with managers and staff to ensure that recommended behaviours such as regular hand washing, avoiding person to person contact where possible and avoiding attending work in the event of illness, are undertaken. 

We strongly request that customers use card payments at the box office, candy bar and Nova Bar + Kitchen to reduce cash handling.

The health and safety of our audience and cinema staff is our number one priority. We are open for business and we continue to welcome customers into our venue. As this is a evolving situation, we are monitoring advice by health authorities and will continue to update our practices as required, including increased surface cleaning and removing allocated seating for most sessions to allow for audience comfort. Industry bodies are also providing regular advice on best practice, which is being provided to our staff to initiate. Cinema Nova sessions are continuing as scheduled, however any changes that may arise will be communicated to ticket holders.

We request that everyone who visits Cinema Nova practices good hygiene by regularly washing hands thoroughly with soap and covering coughs and sneezes with their elbow. Additionally, if you do feel unwell we ask that you stay home and seek medical attention as needed. As per current health advice regarding COVID-19, anyone who has a fever or acute respiratory infection and has visited or transferred through any countries listed by Australian travel authorities on or after 1 February 2020 until 14 days after they were last in a listed country and anyone who has been in close contact with a confirmed case in the past 14 days prior to onset of illness are advised to self-isolate at home and seek medical advice:
