When the Pike River Mine disaster happened in 2010, it was the country’s worst mining disaster since 1914. The lives of 29 miners were taken, including Anna Osborne’s (Lynskey) husband, and Sonya Rockhouse’s (Malcom) son, due to weak Government regulations and inadequate inspection regime. With an insufficient response from officials, Anna and Sonya refuse to stand idly by, taking on the government, justice system and a company that will stop at nothing to protect itself.
