From the ridiculous to the sublime, Billy Wilder's SUNSET BOULEVARD finds has-been silent-era actress Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson) inviting screenwriter Joe Gillis (William Holden) to consult on a script she hopes will lead to her comeback. Moving the writer into her outdated Hollywood mansion, Gillis discovers that Swanson refuses to recognise her fame has all but evaporated and the studio chiefs have moved on to younger stars. Nominated for 11 Academy Awards, it has come to be recognised as one of the finest films ever made.
