AFFA26 My Father's Shadow

Akinola Davies Jr's bold and poetic debut MY FATHER'S SHADOW follows Florian (Sope Dirisu) a father, estranged from his two young sons Remi and Akin (Chibuike Marvelous Egbo and Godwin Egbo), as they travel through the Nigerian metropolis Lagos during the 1993 Nigerian election crisis.

With political unrest threatening their journey, Florian sets out to get his months overdue pay, while his boys, overwhelmed by their unfamiliar surroundings, try to take everything in. As the trio make their way through the Lagos, they encounter differing political views – those excited at the prospect of favourite MKO Abiola, and those who believe Nigeria needs discipline and military rule. With the city appearing impossibly divided, the connection between parent and child becomes increasingly important, viewed through the minute details of this single day.
