Eternal Sunshine and Being John Malkovich
DOUBLE FEATURE! Two Academy Award winning, mind-bending black comedies from Charlie Kaufman
ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND stars Jim Carrey in a role like no other. After discovering his ex-girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet) has undergone a procedure that entirely removes him from her memory, Joel (Carrey) agrees to the procedure as well, and the audience is taken on a surreal odyssey back through the highs and lows of their relationship. As each memory is erased from his consciousness, Joel reconciles with the mistakes he made and wrestles with the love he is losing. The film features an all-star cast including Mark Ruffalo, Kirsten Dunst and Elijah Wood. Winslet garnered a Best Actress nomination for her role as Clementine, Joel's enigmatic ex-girlfriend, and Charlie Kaufman won the Oscar for Best Original screenplay, after being nominated twice before.
BEING JOHN MALKOVICH follows a struggling street performer Craig Schwartz (John Cusack), who while working as a file clerk, discovers a hidden door, that doubles as a portal into the mind of John Malkovich (played by the actor himself!) Starring Catherine Keener, nominated for the Best Actress Oscar for her role as Schwartz’s colleague Maxine, and Cameron Diaz as Schwartz's animal loving wife, the three hatch a plan to let others into John’s brain for $200 a trip. The film was Nominated for 3 Academy awards, including Best Original Screenplay for Chalie Kaufman and Best Director for Spike Jones.
